Ubongo is one of the most beloved puzzle game franchises in the world. Ubongo 3D takes it to a new dimension — literally. Instead of laying flat tiles, players race to fit three-dimensional blocks into a two-level placement area on their puzzle board. The pieces must fit exactly within the black outline, on no more than two levels, with no overhangs. It's the same pulse-racing, competitive spirit of the original — now with spatial reasoning added to the mix. Each round starts with a die roll that determines which 3 of your 8 pieces you must use. Flip the hourglass and race. First to finish shouts 'Ubongo!' and earns a guaranteed gem plus a random bonus draw from the bag. Second place earns a gem too. Finish last or not at all and you get nothing this round. After 9 rounds, tally up your gems by value — not just quantity — and the richest collection wins. What makes Ubongo 3D stand out for family play is its built-in handicapping system. Four difficulty levels (green through red) let players choose their own challenge. A younger child plays on green boards while a parent tackles orange — both racing against the same timer. Everyone competes simultaneously, keeping the energy high and the downtime low.
